Telecommunications Engineer Job Description:
Telecommunication Engineer will work on-site as a liaison with customer on technical and administrative matters for the telecommunications group of a major freight railway operator. Your responsibilities include network routing & design, deployment and overall quality of system. Specifically, you will be responsible for MPLS Service Routers, the Service Aware Manager (SAM), Omni Switch and an Encore Networks device. The Encore device is an IAD (integrated access device) which provides Ethernet LAN access into the backbone network via a Frame Relay circuit. You must be trained and qualified on the MPLS Router IPD 7000 series and 5620 SAM or equivalent.
Job Requirements
Telecommunications Engineer Job Requirements:
Must be knowledgeable with WAN applications such as Ethernet, Frame Relay, MLPPP, DS3 and OCn.
Part of the design team and provide input into the overall design of the customer's network. Must have theoretical and practical experience with OSFP and BGP protocols.
Oversee the technical accuracy of installations and applications of the install based gear.
Work closely with end-users in ensuring the overall satisfaction of the customer installation
Provide assistance when needed in the design and deployment of the Alcatel-Lucent equipment
Work independently to fulfill job responsibilities.
Travel from site to site independently.
End-to-end Product and performance evaluation
Assist in data collection for implementations-Open Cases within Alcatel-Lucent's case tracking database, detailing Customer's issues/questions and your associated response and actions.
Resolve Customer product issues through research using appropriate user guides, manuals, product release notes, troubleshooting guide, and other Technical Support Engineers.
Troubleshoot complex telecom issues as required
Must be a High Level Engineer having 3-5 years of Alcatel-Lucent 77xx series MPLS router experience in both installations and troubleshooting. (equivalent experience on Cisco and Juniper equipment will NOT be given consideration)
Must be a High Level Engineer having 3-5 years of ALU 5620 SAM experience in both installations and troubleshooting. Strong knowledge in MPLS, OSPF, BGP, WAN
Strong knowledge in complex converged IP environments
VoIP troubleshooting (QoS, VLAN Mgmt, DiffServ, etc.) Sniffer / network analysis tools
Switching knowledge (Spanning Tree and switching methodologies) Background in provisioning and maintenance (debug/diagnostics) of carrier switching/routing equipment
Working knowledge of Alcatel-Lucent Service Router Product Line
Experience (3-5 years) in carrier switch/router installations and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of Telco test gear such as Fireberd testers, Sunrise, etc. Ability to debug hardware and software system level problems in a multi-vendor IP environment
Typical Carrier rules, regulations and service procedures.
Operating Systems: Familiarity with UNIX (Linux, HP-UX, Solaris, Aix, etc.) and Microsoft Operating Systems (NT/XP) and software tools such as FTP, Telnet, TFTP, HyperTerminal, etc.
Must be available 24/7 for emergencies but typical work week is 40 hours. Candidate must also pass a Background/Safety test for ErailSafe. We are looking for expert knowledge to work independently at the customer site.
